A Message from our 2018 Chapter President: Erin Prokes

Hello Dayton Area PRSA Members!

For those of you that are meeting me for the first time, hello! My name is Erin Prokes and I am the 2018 Dayton Area PRSA chapter President. Welcome to a new chapter year.

On Tuesday, January 2 as our Board of Directors kicked off our strategic planning session we shared a highlight from our career. Some of the tidbits we learned included:

  • Past-President Susan Kaiser is celebrating 25 years with Midmark this year
  • PRSSA Liaison and PRism co-chair Kelly Mofield has actually been invited to business meetings in the Louvre.
  • Sponsorship Chair, Mark Weinstein highlighted the opening of a working video studio at Cedarville University and assured us he could run it when the students aren’t there.
  • Masters Chair, Lorie Woods and APR Chair, Kristen Bowser have learned the hard way that supporting major network television shows can be rewarding, but not nearly as rewarding as watching them in your sweatpants.

From every example came a personal note about wanting to connect and learn more about those around the table. As we launched into our chapter SWOT, the theme “Tools and Testimonies” expanded from our programming strategy to a practical application across the Chapter. You should be warned that I live for a good theme and the organization that one inevitably brings.

We left the session with some absolutes:

  1. We’ve set three goals as a Board that will hold us accountable to creating strategic programming (tools), increasing our social interaction (tools and testimonies), and enabling members to earn their APRs (tools).
  2. The PRism Awards process is going to look a little different in 2018. You will have the opportunity to nominate an individual soon for one of our four prestigious individual awards, and/or wait to nominate your own projects in a few weeks. Since all it takes is an unexpected call to destroy a perfectly good to-do list, we’re giving you time to approach each nomination with sincerity, not try to do everything at once.
  3. If you aren’t a fan on Facebook, click here and give us a like. And, if you’d like to connect with the Board, find us on LinkedIn. We’ll still use email to keep you informed, but just as we look at new ways to communicate with our audience in our professional lives, we’re expanding our PRSA approaches too.

Speaking of connecting, we’d like to invite you to share your own story and have a drink and a bite to eat on us. You deserve it and I would be willing to bet a few of you reading this “forgot to each lunch” at least once this month.  Click here to reserve your spot on Wednesday, January 30 at Wheat Penny for our January Networking Happy Hour.

It can be tough to #DoAllTheThings—believe me I try. Therefore, our commitment to you is to identify the tools (like Google Analytics in February) and to foster the connections that are worthy of your limited time.

I look forward to toasting with each of you at Wheat Penny!

Erin Prokes is the 2018 President Elect for the PRSA Dayton Chapter.
