Local PR Pros Win Big At The 2018 PRism Awards

2017s news is officially history and so are the big wins at the History in the Making themed PRisms Awards Banquet held on May 3, 2018 at the Dayton Steam Plant. The PRism awards, hosted by the Dayton Area Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), are held each May and recognize the best talent in public relations throughout the Miami Valley.

“Marketing and Communications professionals in Dayton are impacting well-known brands on local and national stages, “said Erin Prokes, Dayton Area Chapter president. “It was truly inspiring to award our local experts for their work representing differing industries like health care, refrigerants, blood donation and community relations to name a few.”

Businesses and individuals submit nominations for the PRisms each at the onset of the calendar year. The nominations are then judged by a group of PR professionals in the Green Bay, Wisconsin chapter of PRSA who determine who should receive a PRism award or an Award of Merit based on overall scoring.

Eleven local businesses were recognized in 10 categories for their superior work in public relations—25 PRisms and six awards of merit were given out during the evening.

The Best in Show award was given to myCUmortgage in the special events and observances category for the 2017 myCUmortgage Partner Conference, a program that began 13 years ago to inform and educate mortgage industry experts from partner credit unions. One judge commented, “Outstanding job! … the application was incredibly thorough in explaining the success of your event.”

Additionally, a Judges’ Choice was given to Community Blood Center/Community Tissue Services in the writing-long form category for the Blood Bond Born at Eldora Ballroom. The judges commented:

  • “This is a piece unusual in feature writing today; a story of past love, heartache and trial that has a dream-like quality. The writing and story carried me along until the end. What a remarkable story!”
  • “In my years of judging awards, I don’t know that I’ve ever read a piece quite like this one. The author should be proud. The depth of emotions conveyed in the story (and brought out in its readers) were profound.”

Nominations for the 2019 PRism awards will open in January 2019 via www.PRSADayton.org.
